Hello! My name is Emmitt Bradstock. I'm the managing director of Hanham Flooring Centre, and I've been installing carpets and wood flooring for over 30 years. It has truly become my passion.
I've taken my trade as far as Australia and New Zealand, where the open-plan living spaces and tricky layouts certainly added to my experience. I only use fitters I can personally guarantee will work to the highest standard, and you'll meet me at your survey.
Claire looks after the showroom, so she's usually the one you'll speak to first.
What goes where.
Carpet, wood, laminate, vinyl, Karndean, sisal and seagrass. Here's our honest take on which floor suits which room.

Tough, easy to clean and practical. Sheet vinyl is ideal for kitchens, bathrooms and conservatories, especially if cost is an issue. Karndean luxury vinyl tile is waterproof, scratch resistant and quieter underfoot.

Laminate shrugs off heels, scuffs and spills, which is why it's ideal for hallways. On the stairs, a hard-wearing carpet, or a runner with stair rods and a whipped or bound edge.

Solid wood floors are 18–20mm thick and can be re-sanded, re-stained and re-sealed many times over. Genuinely floors for life. Or, for softness, a luxury American Saxony carpet.

From hard-wearing man-made carpets to thick wool. Sisal is soft enough for bedrooms, good for allergies and gives natural sound insulation.

Real wood on top, cross-ply layers underneath. That stability is what makes engineered wood the preferred choice in rooms with underfloor heating.

Laminate resists impact, scuffs and spills, ideal for kitchens and children's bedrooms. Wood floors trap less animal fur, dust and pollen, so they're often recommended for allergy sufferers.
